Treating Scars

A Practical Tips Guide

Most of us have scars and it would be virtually impossible to navigate through life without a mishap, accident or injury that results in a scar of some sort on your body.  Add to this procedures and operations that require an incision, stitches etc. and there could be a scar that may or may not concern you but would benefit from some TLC while it heals.

While it should be noted that everyone's skin is different and healing varies from person to person, there are some useful DIY tips that you can implement to try to encourage a scar to heal in the most comfortable way possible.

Products

There are many products on the market which claim to improve the appearance of scars and I remember using Bio Oil many moons ago in the quest to minimise stretch marks on my knees through growing too tall, too quickly in my teens!  My preference now (where possible) is to opt for organic ingredients and when I have to select something non-organic, I look for quality ingredients and natural/no fragrance.  I like Dr Paw Paw Original Multipurpose Balm as it moisturises the area of healing while helping to improve the appearance over time.  It contains anti-inflammatory ingredients such as magnesium, potassium iron and Vitamins A, C and E, all of which have an antioxidant effect on the skin to protect it as it heals.

Treatments

Treatments are continuously evolving and there are many effective ways to improve the appearance of scars.  As you would expect, results will vary and no-one can guarantee an outcome.  Innovative treatments will cost, so expect to commit to a treatment plan if you want to truly see a difference and work towards a noticeable outcome.  Needle-based treatments, lasers and cryotherapy and just a few of the options you might have if you choose to investigate this route.
